The BMW M235i Coupé.
An embodiment of intense driving pleasure.
Singapore. BMW Asia is set to unveil BMW M235i Coupé on February 28, 2014.The BMW M235i Coupé is a high-performance model in the premium compact segment, propelled by the most powerful petrol engine developed so far for a BMW M Performance Automobile vehicle.
Powered by a six-cylinder in-line engine with BMW M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology, the BMW M235i Coupé comes with a maximum power output of 326hp and maximum torque of 450Nm, with the ability to sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds.
The new ‘2’ badge designation offers a clear distinction between the BMW M235i Coupé and the BMW M135i Hatch. Further, the vehicle concept of the BMW M235i Coupé offers handling properties that are defined by impressive agility and precision, which is the result of extensive modifications made by BMW M GmbH engineers to the components involved in maximising the car’s sporting ability.
“The BMW M235i Coupé is the newest addition to the BMW M Performance Automobiles range that was first introduced in Singapore in late 2012. This new range of cars is positioned between the regular BMW vehicles and the motorsport-inspired BMW M cars, and is targeted at sporty drivers with the preference for more driving pleasure without compromising on everyday usability,” said Mr Sethipong Anutarasoti, Corporate Affairs Director of BMW Group Asia.
Addictive Power: Six-cylinder in-line engine with M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology.
The straight-six engine powering the BMW M235i Coupé benefits from the latest development stage in M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology and specific modifications to the cooling system, power management and sound tuning.
A twin-scroll turbocharger, High Precision Direct Injection with centrally positioned multi-hole injectors, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing and Double-VANOS variable camshaft control team up to ensure instantaneous power delivery and the free-revving characteristics typical of the brand – not to mention exceptional efficiency for this output class.
The engine generates maximum output of 326 hp from its 3.0-litre displacement, while peak torque of 450 Nm between 1,300 and 4,500 rpm gives the engine its imposing pulling power.
High-Performance: Sport automatic with Launch Control.
The BMW M235i Coupé comes equipped with a Sport automatic gearbox, which uses ultra-fast gear changes to underline its dynamic character. This gearbox variant likewise comes with gearshift paddles on the steering wheel and a Launch Control function, which enables traction-optimised, dynamically maximised acceleration off the line.
The standard-fitted Driving Experience Control switch on the centre console allows the car’s set-up to be adjusted at the touch of a button through COMFORT, SPORT and ECO PRO settings. SPORT+ mode is also available. The Driving Experience Control switch can also be used to modify the car’s accelerator mapping and steering characteristics as well as – depending on specification – the responses of the automatic gearbox and dampers.
In ECO PRO mode the car encourages a particularly relaxed as well as frugal driving style. And BMW M235i Coupé drivers also reap the benefits of the latest addition to the fuel-saving arsenal – the coasting function, available in conjunction with an automatic gearbox. At speeds between 50 and 160 km/h, the powertrain is disengaged as soon as the driver takes his or her foot off the accelerator.
Bespoke chassis tuning for maximum precision.
In order to translate this outstanding engine power into dynamic performance with an equal measure of excitement and authority, the BMW M235i Coupé features model-specific chassis technology. This includes individually configured spring and damper systems, and specific elastokinematics for the front axle. Added to which, the BMW M235i Coupé comes as standard with the M Sport braking system and variable sport steering, which determines its own characteristics. The standard, exclusive 18-inch M light-alloy wheels of the BMW M235i Coupé are fitted with 18-inch M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres. The specially developed high-grip tyres guarantee optimum transfer of acceleration and braking forces to the road surface.
Exclusively for BMW M235i Coupé : BMW M Performance limited-slip differential.
Another performance product offered exclusively for the BMW M235i Coupé to enhance its dynamic potential is the BMW M Performance limited-slip differential. This mechanical rear axle differential system optimises traction in suitably dynamic driving situations.
When the DSC stability system is switched off, this torque-sensitive limited-slip differential ensures drive is split between the rear wheels to optimum traction-maximising effect. Reacting to differing torque between the driven wheels, it reduces slip at the wheel with low grip by channelling surplus drive to the other wheel through a locking effect.
This controlled drive distribution leads to optimised traction and allows for even more dynamic handling at the limit. Engine power is translated into propulsion as effectively as possible to provide even more dynamic acceleration out of corners, for example.
The BMW M Performance limited-slip differential will be available for the BMW M235i Coupé later this year.
Optimised aerodynamics, high-quality sports car ambience.
Like its chassis technology, the aerodynamic properties of the BMW M235i Coupé have also been tweaked to take into account the output of its six-cylinder engine. The front apron of the two-door car bears the hallmarks of M design, while its large air intakes with flaps adapted from racing car design occupy the space reserved for foglamps in the regular BMW 2 Series Coupé model. In the now customary style for BMW M Performance Automobiles, they are transected by horizontal crosspieces in Ferric Grey metallic.
Other features of the exterior design are BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow Line trim, exterior mirror caps in Ferric Grey, particularly striking contoured side skirts and a rear apron whose lower section is finished in Dark Shadow metallic paintwork and also incorporates the exhaust system’s twin tailpipes. The package of aerodynamically optimised body features is rounded off by the standard-specification gurney on the boot lid.
The car also features door sill strips with aluminium inserts bearing “M235i” lettering and a specially “tuned” interior design. It offers sports seats for the driver and front passenger, an M leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons, a BMW Individual roof liner in Anthracite, Aluminium Hexagon interior trim with accent strips in matt Estoril Blue or high-gloss black, handbrake lever gaiter, , a special instrument cluster with digital model designation together with red dials and numbers for the speedometer and rev counter, as well as variable use of colour for the interior lighting and blue detailing for the car key.
Extensive standard specification and equipment for more driving enjoyment.
The BMW M235i Coupé comes standard with an extensive standard specification and wide range of optional extras. The standard equipment list now includes, Sport seats for driver and front passenger, Sport automatic transmission, variable sport steering, Adaptive M suspension, M Sport brake, 18-inch M light alloy wheels, Park Distance Control (front and rear), Harman KardonHiFi loudspeaker system and Navigation system Professional.
The BMW M235i Coupé is available for viewing at Munich Automobiles’ showroom.
The BMW 2 Series Coupé.
Unbeatable driving dynamics in the premium compact segment.
Singapore. BMW Asia has unveiled the BMW 220i Coupé, which has successfully raised the bar in the premium compact segment in terms of dynamic ability, aesthetic appeal and emotional allure.
Apart from the new ‘2’ badge designation, a clear distinction has been made between the BMW 2 Series Coupé and its predecessor in terms of its eye-catching design and performance to distinguish it from the hugely popular BMW 1 Series Coupé, of which more than 150,000 units have already been sold globally.
“The number ‘2’ has denoted the presence of a supremely sporting driving experience in a compact two-door car for over 45 years. The BMW 2 Series Coupé builds on the BMW brand’s strong tradition of premium compact models, which first started in 1966 with the BMW 1600-2 and subsequently with the BMW 2002 turbo. The BMW 1600-2 literally opened up a whole new vehicle segment and went on to become a global standard-bearer for sporty handling and intense driving pleasure in the premium compact segment. Meanwhile, the BMW 2002 turbo is a true representation of what Sheer Driving Pleasure means by being the first turbocharged model from a European car manufacturer, which is definitely a breakthrough during that time,” said Mr Sethipong Anutarasoti, Corporate Affairs Director of BMW Group Asia.
“Built with intelligent lightweight design and ultra-high tensile steel material, the BMW 2 Series Coupé offers greater agility and occupant protection. With the strength of its passenger safety cell improved by up to 13% against its predecessor, this definitely contributed to its five-star EURO NCAP crash test rating. Further, with increased torsional stiffness, its overall driving dynamics has also been improved,” highlighted Mr Anutarasoti.
Driving Experience: Powered by BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.
Powered by a BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, the BMW 220i Coupé offers an unbeatable balance between driving pleasure, fuel economy and CO2 emissions. When compared to its predecessor (BMW 1 Series Coupé), there is an increase in maximum power output (+18%; 184hp), improved maximum torque (+35%; 270Nm from 1,250 to 4,500rpm), and shorter time required in completing the century sprint in 7.0 seconds (+2.2 seconds improvement). Yet, the BMW 220i Coupé has achieved better fuel efficiency (+23%; 6.0litres per 100km) and CO2 emissions (+23%; 139 g/km) as per the average EU test cycle).
Efficient Dynamics: Sports automatic with Launch Control, ECO PRO mode with coasting function.
The BMW 220i Coupé comes standard with the eight-speed sport automatic gearbox, which uses ultra-fast gear changes to underline the dynamic character of the two-door car. This gearbox variant likewise comes with gearshift paddles on the steering wheel and a Launch Control function, which enables traction-optimised, dynamically maximised acceleration off the line. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration figure for the automatic variant of the BMW 2 Series Coupé was recorded using Launch Control.
The standard-fitted Driving Experience Control switch on the centre console allows the car’s set-up to be adjusted at the touch of a button through COMFORT, SPORT and ECO PRO settings. SPORT+ mode is also available for cars equipped with at least one of the following options: Sports automatic gearbox, M Sport package, BMW Sport Line, Adaptive M suspension or variable sport steering. The Driving Experience Control switch can also be used to modify the car’s accelerator mapping and steering characteristics as well as – depending on specification – the responses of the automatic gearbox and dampers.
In ECO PRO mode the car encourages a particularly relaxed as well as frugal driving style. And BMW 2 Series Coupé drivers also reap the benefits of the latest addition to the fuel-saving arsenal – the coasting function, available in conjunction with an automatic gearbox. At speeds between 50 and 160 km/h, the powertrain is disengaged as soon as the driver takes his or her foot off the accelerator. With the Navigation system Professional as standard, drivers also enjoy the services of the Proactive Driving Assistant. In ECO PRO mode this system alerts drivers to the ideal fuel-saving moment to take their foot off the gas ahead of corners, junctions, roundabouts and speed-restricted areas.
The standard-fitted BMW EfficientDynamics technology also includes Brake Energy Regeneration, on-demand operation of ancillary units, Electric Power Steering, an Optimum Shift Indicator and the Auto Start Stop function, which can also be used in conjunction with an automatic gearbox.
Exterior Design: Standalone Appearance and Increased Dimensions.
The hallmark three-box body structure with a clear distinction between roofline and boot has a particularly clear presence in the new compact model. Like the side wage lines that wrap around into the rear end, this feature picks up on the characteristic styling elements of the BMW 02, drawing a line between the new car and the brand’s long tradition of sporting and agile compact models.
The BMW 2 Series Coupé has grown in size compared to its predecessor (BMW 1 Series Coupé), with an increased in length (+72mm) and width (+26mm). It now spots a wider front track (+41mm) and rear track (+43mm) which provides greater stability as well as a longer wheelbase (+30mm). Yet, despite increased level of standard equipments and a bigger size, the BMW 2 Series Coupé has maintained the same weight (1,365kg) as its predecessor thanks to lightweight construction.
Interior Design: More room, more comfort.
The cockpit design ensures maximum driving pleasure with premium ambience that can be enjoyed from a four-seat configuration.
The BMW 2 Series Coupé has grown in size compared to its predecessor (BMW 1 Series Coupé), with an increased of headroom (+6mm), legroom (+21mm) and a wider Easy Entry function (+11mm) than before.
Functionality levels are raised another notch by features including large storage compartments in the doors. The structure of the surfaces of the instrument panel, centre console and door trim is dominated by the “layering” effect created by various overlapping surfaces. The length of the doors is emphasized by the converging lines of the door trim elements.
The BMW 2 Series Coupé also has a bigger boot with wider opening to enable easier loading and unloading. The boot has grown in sizeable proportions (+20 litres) and now offers 390 litres of capacity. The width of the tailgate aperture between the rear lights is also +38mm more than that offered by the outgoing BMW 1 Series Coupé. The BMW 2 Series Coupé comes standard with the 60:40 split/folding rear bench.
Fitted standard with navigation system and BMW Professional radio, the BMW 220i Coupé also features the BMW iDrive operating system which includes a freestanding onboard monitor in flatscreen design. Meanwhile the Controller on the centre console has touch-sensitive surface which allows the driver to input characters.
The BMW 220i comes standard with Datoka leather trim.
BMW Sport Line and M Sport package.
The BMW Lines – available as an alternative to standard specification for the BMW 2 Series Coupé – offer harmoniously coordinated exterior and interior design and equipment features. The BMW Sport Line includes 17-inch light-alloy wheels in exclusive designs, ambient lighting with variable use of colours and special seat upholstery, interior trim strip and car key designs. BMW Sport Line brings a high-gloss black finish for the outer air intake surrounds, the front of the kidney grille bars, the cross rib in the centre air intake and the rear apron, emphasising the dynamic credentials of the two-door newcomer.
Also available from the launch of the BMW 2 Series Coupé is the M Sport package developed specially for the new model. This option comprises bespoke suspension tuning (including a 10-millimetre drop in ride height and 17-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design), aerodynamically optimised body elements (including large front air intakes, striking side skirts and a diffuser for the rear apron), plus a special design for the BMW kidney grille and an exhaust tailpipe embellisher in high-gloss chrome. In addition to aluminium door sill strips bearing the M logo, features such as sports seats for the driver and front passenger, Aluminium Hexagon interior trim strips with an accent strip in Estoril Blue, a special dial design for the instrument cluster, ambient lighting and an M driver’s footrest also combine to bring an intense aura of sporty driving to the interior of the BMW 2 Series Coupé.

The BMW 4 Series Convertible.
Open-top driving pleasure redefined.
Singapore. BMW Asia has unveiled the BMW 4 Series Convertible, which heralds a new era in the premium mid-size range of open-top BMW cars. Available as the 435i and 428i Convertible, it will be retailed via Performance Motors Ltd.
“The BMW 4 Series Convertible sets new standards in terms of dynamics, elegance and extraordinary driving pleasure – both with the top up or down. The BMW 4 Series Convertible has an extremely low centre of gravity, bespoke chassis setup and intelligent lightweight construction concept, resulting in an exceptionally dynamic overall package,” said Mr Sethipong Anutarasoti, Corporate Affairs Director, BMW Group Asia.
“With added dimensions, the new BMW 4 Series Convertible is bigger than the outgoing BMW 3 Series Convertible but does not compromise on its overall handling and driving dynamics. Additionally, the new BMW 4 Series Convertible now comes with a number of new features powered by both BMW EfficientDynamics and BMW ConnectedDrive technologies for the first time.”
New dimensions, lower centre of gravity.
Traditionally BMW convertibles have always been styling trendsetters thanks to their dynamic and balanced proportions, both when the top is up or down. The dimensions of the BMW 4 Series Convertible differ significantly from the outgoing BMW 3 Series Convertible. Despite an increase in the car’s length to 4,638mm (+26mm) and a longer wheelbase of 2,810mm (+50mm), these added dimensions combine neatly with the BMW 4 Series Convertible’s BMW typical short overhangs, long bonnet, set-back passenger compartment to produce a silhouette boasting impeccable visual balance.
For the first time, the rear wheel arches mark the car’s broadest point – a clear statement of dynamic intent. The result is a +45mm wider front track (1,545mm) and +81mm of extra width at the rear axle (1,594mm). The BMW 4 Series Convertible also sits 8mm closer to the asphalt than the previous BMW 3 Series Convertible, which brings the car’s centre of gravity down. As such, drivers of the new BMW 4 Series Convertible can look forward to an alluring package of assured roadholding, agile handling and enhanced precision and feedback without compromising on comfort.
Intelligent lightweight and high-strength construction.
Dynamic performance and handling is significantly influenced by vehicle weight. The new BMW 4 Series Convertible’s intelligent lightweight construction concept makes a major contribution to the car’s dynamic qualities. The use of high- and ultra-high-strength multi-phase steels and tailored blanks – customised precision components for specific applications – maximises the body’s strength. The torsional rigidity has been increased by 40 percent compared with the predecessor model. The top also plays a decisive role in a convertible, because the car does not have a roof serving as a permanent support element. Most BMW 4 Series Convertible variants are up to 20 kg lighter than the predecessor, even though the new vehicle is larger and conforms to more stringent safety standards.
When the hardtop is up, the new BMW 4 Series Convertible highlights its aerodynamic qualities with a Cd (drag coefficient) of 0.28 – which is the same figure as for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé. The convertible achieves a Cd of 0.33 when the top is down, which is possible due to the optimisation of the front apron and the rear of the car. The BMW Air Curtain in the front apron generates a veil of air, which reduces turbulence – and therefore air drag – around the front wheels. The new BMW Air Breathers positioned rearwards of the front wheel arches divert some of the air flowing through the wheel arches, thereby reducing air resistance. These innovations serve to optimise fuel economy and – at the same time – enhance the drag coefficient.
Three-piece retractable hardtop. Form and function.
The BMW 4 Series Convertible offers outstanding everyday driving qualities and a dynamic design, with the top up or down. The height of the BMW 4 Series Convertible is 1,384mm, making it a mere 7mm taller than the BMW 4 Series Coupé. The hardtop of the BMW 4 Series Convertible features a number of design improvements that reduce noise levels for a much quieter interior ambience. The sound-absorbing headliner also reduces wind noise by up to 2 dB in comparison to the predecessor model. All it takes is a push of a button to transform the dynamic coupé into an elegant athletic convertible within 20 seconds. The top can also be lowered while the vehicle travels at speeds of up to 18 km/h.
The BMW 4 Series Convertible also has plenty of space in the boot, even when the retractable hardtop is lowered: Unlike earlier models, the new convertible offers wider access to the luggage compartment, and an electro-hydraulic loading assistance system pivots and positions the folded hardtop in the boot as needed to ensure maximum utilisation of the 220 litres of storage space available. When the top is up, the luggage compartment has a volume of 370 litres, which is 20 litres more than the previous BMW 3 Series Convertible.
Individual equipment lines and exclusive details.
The interior of the BMW Series 4 Convertible presents a stylish fusion of sporty allure, elegance and exclusivity. All of the controls are arranged ergonomically around the driver to provide optimum access to all functions. The doors are designed so that all the lines converge towards the rear, and bright colour combinations featuring a two-tone effect for the door and side panels contribute in combination with the hardtop cover to the “boat deck” look.
This wrap-around interior design provides for a seating ensemble that allows all four passengers to share the open-sky driving experience. The design of the front seats is new and includes integrated seatbelts. The seats are also electrically adjustable as standard.
When the top is down, the temperature setting is automatically controlled in relation to the outdoor temperature and the speed of the vehicle. Apart from two specially equipped lines, an M Sport package is also available. The Sport Line and Luxury Line versions can be selected to personalise the new convertible with special interior and exterior accents. The fine materials and meticulous craftsmanship underline the premium ambience of the BMW 4 Series Convertible.
BMW 435i: Six-cylinder in-line engine with eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new BMW 435i Convertible gives full value to performance-minded drivers thanks to a straight-six petrol engine that impresses with instantaneous power delivery, the thirst for revs you would expect from BMW, outstanding refinement and exceptional efficiency. Equipped with High Precision Direct Injection and Valvetronic fully variable valve control, the 3.0-litre engine with aluminium crankcase develops maximum output of 306 hp between 5,800 and 6,400 rpm. Peak torque of 400 Nm is generated as low down as 1,200 rpm and remains on tap up to 5,000 rpm. It can complete the century sprint in 5.5 seconds. Its fuel consumption is 7.7 litres/100km and CO2 emissions of 180g/km (per average EU test cycle). The promise of pure dynamics contained within those figures is delivered out on the road.
Extraordinarily rapid gear changes and outstanding shift comfort make the eight-speed sports automatic transmission the perfect choice for customers with a passion for sporty driving. Extra shift phases keep increases in rpm small between gear changes. The gearbox adjusts to a wide range of driving styles, from spontaneous and dynamic to comfortable cruising. With the eight-speed Sports automatic transmission, manual gear changes are also possible using the paddles on the steering wheel or the short-throw gearshift.
BMW 428i: Four-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology.
Spirited power delivery, impressive torque, high maximum revs and low weight are the key qualities of the award-winning 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which fits in seamlessly with the dynamic concept of the new BMW 4 Series Convertible. Equipped with BMW’s technology package – including High Precision Direct Injection, twin-scroll turbocharging, Double-Vanos variable camshaft control and Valvetronic fully variable valve control – the BMW 428i Convertible lays on impressive performance potential combined with low fuel consumption and emissions.
The cutting-edge, four-cylinder petrol engine generates maximum output of 245 hp at 5,000 – 6,500 rpm and peak torque of 350 Nm, which is available between 1,250 and 4,800 rpm. The new BMW 428i Convertible harnesses these sporty performance attributes to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The engine translates each dab of the accelerator into forward propulsion instantaneously and conjures up compelling power delivery from the moment it spins above idle all the way into the upper regions of its engine speed range along an almost linear curve. The standard eight-speed Sports automatic gearbox opens up further potential for fuel savings, with a fuel consumption of 6.7 litres per 100km and CO2 emissions of 157 grams per km (per average EU test cycle).
The sheer driving pleasure of the BMW 4 Series Convertible is accompanied by outstanding economy. The source of this low fuel consumption can be traced to BMW EfficientDynamics, with innovations that can be found throughout the new BMW 4 Series Convertible. In addition to the optimised fuel economy of the petrol engines, the intelligent lightweight construction concept and honed aerodynamics – headlined by BMW Air Curtain and BMW Air Breathers – also help to maximise efficiency. Other features such as the Auto Start Stop function, Brake Energy Regeneration, the gear shift indicator, on-demand operation of ancillary units and the innovative Proactive Driving Assistant all do their part to ensure low fuel consumption and reduced emissions, without compromising driving performance. The ECO PRO mode can even lead to fuel savings of 20 percent. In conjunction with the sports automatic transmission, the new convertible – like the BMW 4 Series Coupé – also features a coasting mode for the first time, which is activated at speeds between 50km/h to 160km/h.
BMW was early in recognising the significance of connecting the automobile with its environment through intelligent networking technologies and thus is able to offer unique mobility services and driver assistance systems. These innovations are available from the Connected Drive product range as standard or optional equipment for the BMW 4 Series Convertible and, for a limited time, some can even be ordered after the initial vehicle purchase. With these innovations, the new BMW 4 Series Convertible is setting standards in terms of safety, convenience and infotainment. Among the highlights are the new generation of the Navigation System Professional, the full-colour BMW Head-Up Display, the Driving Assistant, which warns the driver of potential collisions, the intelligent, glare-free LED High Beam Assistant, Active Protection with Attentiveness Assistant and the latest development stage of the Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function.
The BMW 4 Series Convertible is available for viewing at Performance Motors’ showroom.

BMW Asia and Performance Motors invest more than S$5 million in BMW i facilities in Singapore.
• Largest Electric Vehicle investment ever made in Singapore by an automotive brand.
• BMW imparts high-tech carbon fibre repair and high-voltage lithium-ion battery maintenance expertise.
Singapore. With the impending launch of the all-electric BMW i3 and the plug-in hybrid BMW i8 slated for July 2014, BMW Asia and Performance Motors Ltd (PML) have jointly invested more than S$5 million in terms of BMW i facilities.
As Singapore eagerly awaits the arrival of the first commercially-retailed Electric Vehicles (EV) in the coming months, the investment is by far the largest-ever made locally by any automotive brand pertaining to EVs and covers various key areas; sales, aftersales, training, communication and infrastructure.
“We recognise that EV ownership is a relatively new concept to a lot of consumers today. Additionally, BMW i cars have various unique features such as a Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) body and is powered by a high-voltage lithium-ion battery, which may pose as further perceived barriers to EV ownership for many. Indeed, BMW i cars will require special equipment and highly-skilled staff to handle them, but I’m proud to announce that we are ready for it,” said Mr Sergio Solero, Managing Director of BMW Group Asia.
The investment made provides PML with the necessary facilities and equipment to handle CFRP repair and high-voltage lithium-ion battery maintenance, which are the two major components required in servicing BMW i vehicles. Extensive technical expertise in these areas has also been gained by the local staff through rigorous training courses.
“PML is immensely honored to be selected to exclusively represent the new iconic BMW i electric vehicles here in Singapore. Our fast paced world is evolving so rapidly that we are now entering an audacious new era in sustainable mobility and we are proud to be a part of the global effort to reduce the carbon footprint collectively. BMW i brings to life the BMW’s cutting-edge knowledge of EV high-voltage battery technology and CFRP expertise. Our substantial investment in time and resources to train all our staff and equip our service centres for BMW i, further demonstrates our commitment to the global ‘greening’ of motoring,” said Mr Say Kwee Neng, Managing Director of Performance Motors Ltd.
BMW i Carbon Fibre Centre.
Built based on the unique LifeDrive architecture, the passenger cell of BMW i cars are made of CFRP, which is five times tougher than steel yet weighs only 50% of it. The drive module, which houses the high-voltage lithium-ion battery, is made of aluminium and offers significant weight-savings.
The new CFRP repair and servicing facility is able to repair CFRP structure of the Life module effectively by enabling repair on an isolated area without having to change the entire panel if the impact inflicted does not compromise the structural integrity of the BMW i vehicle.
The reparability of the CFRP structure of the Life module was top of the list of technical specifications during the development of the vehicle concept. For example, several repair sections were defined for the side frame. If a damaged side sill needs to be replaced after a side impact, the workshop performs a visual inspection and damage assessment, and then removes only the side sill repair section using a patented milling tool. The necessary side sill component is manufactured to fit, and then installed on the vehicle. The new part is then bonded to the separation points using repair elements.
According to tests by vehicle insurers and BMW Accident Research, minor damages result from most accidents. Comprising around 90% of all recorded accidents of conventional vehicles, these involve damage to the outer skin. The BMW i3, for instance, takes account of this and is equipped with screw-/clip-on plastic plating all around. Therefore, small bumps are absorbed without leaving dents, unlike with metal parts. Damage to the paint will also not lead to rusting. And if a section of the external skin of the BMW i3 needs to be replaced, this can be carried out quickly and economically.
The new BMW i Carbon Fibre Centre is located at 303 Alexandra Road.
BMW i High-Voltage Battery Centre.
Housed in the Drive Module of BMW i cars, the high-voltage lithium-ion battery is given a deep central positioning that results in a low centre of gravity and optimal weight distribution to ensure unparalleled agility and safety.
A specially developed heating and air conditioning system ensures as few temperature fluctuations as possible, which significantly increases the service life of the battery.
Upon the purchase of a new BMW i vehicle, its high-voltage lithium-ion battery will come with a warranty coverage of up to 8 years (from the starting date of the warranty period) or a maximum mileage of 100,000km, whichever comes first.
The BMW i High-Voltage Battery Centres are located at 315 Alexandra Road and 280 Kampong Arang Road.
Dedicated BMW i Sales Service & Product Genius concept.
A dedicated BMW i sales corner will be set up on the second floor of the main BMW showroom at 303 Alexandra Road to deliberately position BMW i vehicles among the rest of the BMW models. Designed with a distinctive BMW i branding look and feel, the dedicated sales corner will display both the all-electric BMW i3 and the plug-in hybrid BMW i8 sports car.
“PML marks this historic chapter and automotive evolution with a dedicated BMW i sales area intensifying BMW’s latest technological innovation. With the society increasingly becoming more affluent and eco-conscious, we are excited to announce a new process called Future Retail where we have hired Product Geniuses to address the myriad of technology features and functions in our BMW World. Product Geniuses are tech-savvy product experts trained to demonstrate and explain features and services such as CFRP technology, high-voltage lithium-ion battery technology, 360o ELECTRIC and the BMW ConnectedDrive features available in BMW i models. Product Geniuses remove the “sales pressure” element from initial contact with customers,’ said Mr Say.
Product Geniuses, who will be based in the showroom, can be easily identified with their uniforms. They will guide customers through the ordering, buying, test drive and handover processes, and will be on call to assist with any subsequent queries or service updates.
BMW Asia and Performance Motors Limited award integrated agency pitch to Ogilvy & Mather Singapore.
Singapore. Through a rigorous and multi-stage pitch process that started in February 2014, BMW Asia together with Performance Motors Limited (PML) have chosen Ogilvy & Mather Singapore as its agency of record, managing their advertising and digital communication needs for both companies in Singapore.
This decision was driven by an increasing need for BMW Asia and PML to look at their communication in an integrated manner and creating new ways of engaging with existing customers, as well as future BMW lovers.
According to Mr. Lito German, Marketing Director of BMW Asia, “Ogilvy & Mather demonstrated their ability as strategic brand builders with strong local insights and creative ideas. BMW Asia and PML would like to thank all participating agencies who have put in their best efforts for the pitch. Every submission received was of high quality.”

BMW Group Asia and CapitaCommercial Trust forges sustainability partnership.
• Sustainability efforts translate into action.
• Public electric mobility charging stations to be installed at five CBD buildings.
Singapore – BMW Group Asia and CapitaCommercial Trust today announced that they are entering into a partnership focused on sustainability and innovation, starting with plans to jointly install electric vehicle public charging stations at several CapitaCommercial Trust properties within Singapore’s Central Business District.
The target is to install public charging stations at the following five locations and to commence operations as early as end 2014:
• Capital Tower
• Six Battery Road
• One George Street
• Raffles City Singapore
The planned public charging locations will be made accessible to any electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid driver who is registered with Greenlots, the public charging service provider for BMW i. The venues will be equipped with AC- charging stations that can provide electric cars with a quick charge-up over meals or meetings, as well as a full-charge if the electric vehicle owner has an office in the building.
A fully-charged all-electric BMW i3 (capable of zero tailpipe emissions) can travel up to about 150km of travelling range (as per average EU test cycle). Coupled with a petrol-powered range extender, the range can be doubled to as much as 300km; well beyond the average Singaporean-driving distance of about 55km per day (according to statistics by the Land Transport Authority).
“Sustainability has always been the driving force behind how the BMW Group operates, and we constantly seek intelligent solutions to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions without compromising on sheer driving pleasure, as per our Efficient Dynamics philosophy. As the world’s leading premium automotive brand, we firmly believe that electric mobility is the way forward if we wish to achieve greater sustainability. BMW i is the mobility of the future, and it goes beyond just electric vehicles as BMW i entails innovative inter-modal transportation concepts such as car-sharing, as well as intelligent apps designed to make individual mobility more efficient. Being the first to launch the electric mobility concept in Singapore and Southeast Asia, we hope to inspire others to follow,” said Mr. Ramesh Divyanathan, Director of Sales Channel Development and Customer Relations, BMW Group Asia.
“We are extremely delighted to be collaborating with a sustainability-minded partner like CapitaCommercial Trust on this occasion. Through our combined efforts, we are now a step closer to realising our sustainable electric mobility vision in Singapore,” added Mr. Divyanathan.
Ms. Lynette Leong, Chief Executive Officer of CapitaCommercial Trust Management Limited (CCTML) said: “We are excited about this partnership as BMW Group Asia and CCT are very much aligned in terms of our commitment to sustainability and strong customer focus. It is easy to envisage electric mobility as part and parcel of our lives in the not-too-distant future. Through this first step of introducing electric charging stations at five of our office properties, we are offering this added convenience to tenants who are first movers in the use of electric vehicles. We look forward to more sustainability-themed collaborations with BMW Group Asia in the near future for the benefit of our tenants and the general public.”
CapitaLand, sponsor of CCT, is one of the first Singapore-listed companies to publish its Global Sustainability Report 2013 based on the new Global Reporting Initiative Global 4 (GRI G4) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, ahead of the 31 December 2015 timeline. Meanwhile, one of the annual signature events that CCT organises to promote the sustainability message to its tenants is the CCT Eco Race which will be held for the third year on 27 September 2014.
The Eco Race was featured as an innovative case study of tenant engagement activity in Asia within the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark Report 2014. CCT is also a constituent of FTSE4Good Index Series (FTSE4Good), a series of benchmark and tradable indices designed to track the performance of companies meeting international corporate responsibility standards.
Both the BMW Group and CapitaLand’s sustainability efforts are lauded by Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The BMW Group is the only car company in the world to have been awarded the world’s most sustainable automotive company for nine years since 2005, while CapitaLand retained its listing in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the third consecutive year and the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index (DJSI Asia Pacific) for the fifth time this year. CapitaLand was also the first Singapore real estate company to be listed in the DJSI Asia Pacific when the index was launched in 2009.

With the experience and expertise of the Prestige Automobiles team, we are confident that they are the best candidate to represent BMW in Myanmar,” said Mr. Ramesh Divyanathan, Director of Sales Channel Development and Customer Relations of BMW Group Asia.
“It is truly an honour to represent the world's leading premium car brand in Myanmar. Our showroom facility, which took nine months to complete, is currently the most advanced car showroom and service centre in Myanmar. Apart from offering a comfortable showroom environment for our customers to view our cars, we have state-of-the-art servicing equipment and facilities. For instance, our car body repair tools are able to handle not only surface repairs, but structural repairs of damaged vehicles as well. We look forward to providing our local customers with exciting new BMW models as well as the best possible customer service from our staff,” said Mr. Chan Mya, Managing Director of Prestige Automobiles.
BMW Driving Gallery.
The BMW showroom facility has been designed with the concept of a Driving Gallery that places BMW automobiles in centre stage. The concept not only allows the dealership to cut the most appealing, striking profile, but also creates the best preconditions for smooth dealership operations.
The design of the showroom takes into consideration the various scenarios to ensure processes and functions are observed at all times to ensure efficiency and effectiveness; be it a new customer walking into the showroom for the first time, or an existing customer bringing his car in for servicing. The reception counter is also placed in a prominent position to ensure optimum overview of the entire customer area and automobile presentation.
Wide range of BMW models available.
Prestige Automobiles will carry the full range of BMW models, including the new BMW X4, which made its debut in Myanmar.
